Does Bio Oil work?

An unexpected bonus - dark skin on my knees has disappeared

I have noticed another effect that I wasn’t expecting from the Bio Oil.

Since I was a child I have always had much darker skin on my knees and elbows than anywhere else. I used to be very self-conscious about this when I was younger but have just learned to live with it and it doesn’t really bother me anymore.

This morning when rubbing in the Bio Oil I noticed that my knees are now the same colour as the rest of my legs. My elbows are still darker then the rest of my arms but not as dark as they were.

I never expect Bio Oil to do this but I am pleased. I will take some photographs of my elbows tonight and post them tomorrow if I get time. There’s no point putting my knees up because they just look normal now!

Does it work more quickly on new scars?

It ‘s not normally something to be pleased about but I cut my leg shaving yesterday morning. Normally when I do this I get a red mark which is pretty visible for a least a few months and in a lot cases it never completely fades. It says on the website and in many other sources that bio oil works better on new scars so once the skin has healed completely I will treat it with Bio Oil and see if it makes a difference to teh fading time.

I will post a picture once the cut has healed. Will also post pictures of my exisiting scars in stretch makes in a week or so. I don't think I can see a difference yet but maybe I will when the photos are side by side.

First impressions - with pictures

I suppose I really should have put up some pictures before I started using Bio oil at all but these were taken after applying the oil all over my body but paying special attention to scars and stretch marks twice a day for 5 days. The scars and stretch marks still look the same as when I started.

Scar 1 – This is on my wrist. It is a burn scar from an oven and is around 3 years old.

Scar 2 - This is my the hip I walked into a table and split my skin (God knows why I was walking with such force) and this is about a year and a half old.

Stretch marks – As you can see they aren’t too bad. I got them when I grew hips so they are around 10 years old. I do have some worse ones that I will be using them on but as they are on my bum I am not putting pictures of them up!

My first impressions of this oil are quite good. I have been using it twice a day as per the instructions and my skin feels lovely and soft. The dry skin I always get on my hands in winter has gone! The oil itself has a lovely smell – a bit like lavender – but it is quite subtle so it’s not over-powering.

A little bit really does go a long way so for the first couple of applications I used far too much I was very slippery afterwards but when I got used to that it was fine. I would advise using far less than you think you will need to. You can always add more if you need to.

If you use the right amount it does leave a slight greasy film on your skin (it is an oil after all) but this soaks in after about 2 minutes. I would not use this product on your face unless your skin is very dry as I think it would give you spots.

All in all my first impressions are good and I will probably continue to use this even if it doesn’t work on scars and stretch marks as my skin feels so nice!

Does Bio Oil work?

I am sure most people reading this will have heard of Bio Oil. It claims to improve the appearance of your skin by fading away scars and stretch marks. I don’t have particularly bad scarring but I do have a few on my legs from when I was a child. Not loads but I would like to get rid of them if I can. I also have a few stretch marks. Again not loads or particularly bad ones but I can see them and I don’t like them! Because of this I think I am fairly typical of the sort of woman who is curious about Bio oil but may not have got round to trying it yet.

When trying to decide whether or not to use Bio oil I searched the internet for some before and after photographs of real people – i.e. not people who are sponsored by Bio Oil – so I decided to blog about it and include pictures of any progress. Aside from anything else it will be good for me to be able to compare picture so I can see the results.

One of the main things that put me off trying was the fact that it is really expensive but a lot of people see Bio oil on eBay so you can save money that way. Obviously it goes without saying to check the sellers feedback etc but a lot of sellers on there make a living from selling Bio oil and rely on repeat custom so you should be OK as long as you are careful.

The instructions on the bottle say you must use this cream twice a day for 3 months so I will do that (although I am not promising I won't fotget sometimes) and will post pictures every couple of weeks to show progess.
